When it comes to travel bucket lists, my list is never ending!!! However I have been tasked to pick 2 bucket list trips, these are my ultimate dream trips, read on a be inspired….
Iconic Rail Journey & Cruise
I’m a massive fan of rail travel, I love it. Its so relaxing to sit back and watch the changing countryside from the comfort of your window seat. The fact we have no rail options in Fermanagh makes me crave the rail experience all the more when I am away. I’ve done some amazing rail trip already including the Trans Mongolian from Beijing to St Petersburg, The Trans Canadian from Halifax to Vancouver, The California Zephyr from San Francisco to Chicago and I’ve made a start on some shorter European rail journeys too. My ultimate bucket list train journey for me has to be the Iconic Indian Pacific which runs from Perth to Sydney or vice versa. This train journey is the pinnacle of luxury with the option to disembark the train and do excursions along the way, it’s a great way to see the real outback in Australia from very comfortable surroundings! So how would I plan this trip….
I’d fly out to Perth (business class of course!) and spend a couple of days exploring the city of Perth and then hire a car and head to Margaret river area for a few days before going back to Perth to board the Indian Pacific train. The 4 day journey from Perth to Sydney and because I’m feeling flush I would upgrade to the Platinum cabin with full-size double bed….
On arrival into Sydney I would head straight to my luxury 5-star hotel overlooking the Sydney Opera house and set about a 4 night stay exploring the city and the amazing beaches on its doorstep and the Blue Mountains.
The average person may think that its time to head home now – but not me! I’m now getting ready to step onboard a cruise ship from Sydney taking in the far flung South Pacific, places like New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Papau New Guinea are all waiting to be ticked off my bucket list and this cruise is an easy way to do that all without the hassle of packing and unpacking!
When the ship docks back in Sydney and almost a month on the road, I’m ready to check in at the business class lounge and make my way back home, arriving back in Dublin having had a full night sleep on the lie flat bed on board the flight.
What’s the second trip on my bucket list, I hear you ask? I will have to keep you in suspense a little while longer for that one but believe me its worth it!!
