Carefree Travel Expert Richard’s Safari Experience

In 2005 I was extremely lucky to join other agents on a familiarisation trip to Kenya taking in a three night Safari on the Maasai Mara followed by five nights in Mombasa enjoying the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Kenya offers the combination of safari and beach without effort. During my trip I experienced a magical mix and the beautiful diversity of Kenya’s incredible landscape, abundant wildlife and fascinating culture.

The typical day on safari, for me, consisted of tea and coffee with muffins and biscuits (before sunrise) at 5:30am, early morning game drive at 6am and at 9:30am we had breakfast back at the lodge. 1pm for lunch and from 2pm-3:30pm we had free time to relax, swim and/or sleep. More tea/coffee and cake for 4pm, 4:30pm evening game activity and dinner for 8pm.

I can truly say an African Safari is one of the most unforgettable holidays you will ever have.

Carefree Travel Expert Mandy’s Safari Experience

Any trip along the Garden Route in South Africa would not be complete without a stop at one of the world-famous game reserves. My safari took me to Shamwari Game Reserve and Rippons Safari Lodge located on the Eastern Cape a short drive away from Port Elizabeth.

During the drive into the reserve we were met by various road signs depicting warnings of some of the animals we may encounter on the road which certainly heightened our anticipation of what to expect when out on safari.

Once we arrived at Rippons Safari Lodge we were greeted by a nice cool drink and shown to our room which was modern and spacious inside. After a walk around the lodge to get our bearings we hadn’t long to wait until our first game drive in the evening. Our guide and driver was a wonderful man, who had a fabulous knowledge of the park and where we were likely to get good wildlife sightings. A number of jeeps departed from the lodge and all the guides kept in contact via radio so when one spotted an animal the other drivers would get the location by radio and try to catch up. We got the chance to get close to lots of different animals not to mention, giraffe, elephants, rhino, impala, springbok to name a few! Game drives last about 2-3 hours and you usually have one in the morning and one in the evening, be prepared to wrap up warm as it can get very cold before the sun rises. You have some free time during the day when you can relax at your lodge or take a dip in the pool. On our last evening game drive our driver set up a picnic on the bonnet of the jeep and we got to watch one of the most amazing sunsets. A safari is an amazing experience and something that everyone should try at least once!!!
