Your Holiday Itinerary
Day 1 – Fly to Naples
Fly from Dublin to Naples where you will be met by holiday representative. You will be transferred by luxury air conditioned coach to 4 star Hotel Bristol.
Day 2 – Sorrento Walkabout
Today you are invited to join the holiday representative and the rest of your group, for an entertaining and informative welcome meeting and tour around Sorrento’s stunning town centre. En route, your fantastically knowledgeable guide will point out buildings and monuments of note, regaling you with fascinating stories and anecdotes.
A refreshment stop at a much-loved gelateria to meet the charming owner and sample some mouth-watering ice-cream will be your next port of call, after which you’ll visit a cameo shop, to see first-hand how this popular jewellery is crafted. A trip to see where Limoncello is made is also on the cards, as is the opportunity to sample a drop or two of this mouth-watering lemon liqueur.
You will then gather at the town’s air conditioned theatre where your guides will give you insider tips on how to get the most of your week on the Sorrentine peninsula.
After, you’ll head to a local restaurant where you can enjoy a drink on the terrace and soak up the stunning views across the bay.
Day 3 – Mount Vesuvius & Pompeii
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to your first natural wonder of the day, Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe. Located on Italy’s west coast, it overlooks the bay and the city of Naples and is most famous for the 79 AD eruption which buried the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The coach will take you up 1000 meters and from there you can take a footpath to the top (approx. 25 min) and admire the splendid views across the bay. Look deep into the blackened crater as the smoke rises from the fertile ground.
Next stop – Pompeii, where you will have an opportunity to have some lunch before your tour of Pompeii commences. Following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii lay buried for over a thousand years. The town is now one of the most visited sites in the world, and today your local guide will take you back in time with a tour along its original Roman streets. Explore its ancient shops, bars and gyms. Marvel at the fabulously preserved frescoes and mosaics and visit the main square where the former City Hall’s ruins lie. This is an archaeological adventure which will not fail to impress, so make sure you pack your camera! After, hop back on your coach and head back to the hotel.
Day 4 – Sorrento at leisure
Today, explore the beautiful town of Sorrento at your own leisure. Set on a spectacular headland, Sorrento is located on one of the most magnificent coastlines in Italy, with breath-taking views sweeping across the Bay of Naples.
A sun-soaked idyll celebrated by poets, artists and musicians for centuries, you’ll be struck by the beauty of its winding, cobblestoned streets and pretty piazzas. Little pavement cafés dotted throughout the town invite you to sit awhile, sip a coffee, and enjoy a taste of la dolce vita, Sorrento style.
Quaint boutiques and dinky souvenir shops make it the perfect town to potter around in, and you could easily spend hours doing so! In the evenings, life tends to centre round the main square, Piazza Tasso, where good value, high quality restaurants and cosy bars abound.
Day 5 – Amalfi Coast
After breakfast, hop on your coach and embark on your Amalfi Coast adventure. The Amalfi drive is said to be the most spectacular in Europe and from Sorrento, the winding cliff top roads, overlooking sparkling blue sea, offer exquisite panoramic views.
The first stop will be high above Positano, one of the jewels of this coastline, built on different levels from the main road all the way down to sea. This particular spot offers optimum views of the surrounding area, so cameras at the ready!
Further along the coast, the coach makes a refreshment stop where you can admire the local ceramics in a traditional shop and enjoy panoramic views before going on to the town of Amalfi. Here, you will have time to explore this stunning spot at your own leisure. The real jewel in the Amalfi Coast’s crown, Amalfi itself is set on a sand and shingle beach overlooking the glistening Bay of Salerno. The beautiful waterfront is a great place to soak up the sun and enjoy la dolce vita for which Amalfi is famous. In its town centre, the Duomo stands atop a long flight of steps with a lively piazza below. Both in the main square and on the seafront you will find lovely restaurants and street side cafés with mesmerising views.
You will board your coach again and continue to the medieval town of Ravello, which nestles in the mountainside, 1,100ft above the sea. You can enjoy the most amazing views of the Amalfi coastline overlooking Minori, Maiori and beyond. You will then be brought back to your hotel.
Day 6 – Sorrento
Still thirsty for activities? No problem! Your local holiday representative will be more than happy to arrange great extra excursions or activities for you or even recommend fantastic local restaurants and bars so you can sample the local lifestyle.
Perhaps you’d like to book a Capri Boat Tour, where you can cruise along the coastline of this magical island, and take in its beautiful sights, which include the lighthouse of Punta Carena and the famous Faraglioni Rocks. You will also have some free time to explore the island and stroll through its famous main square or admire the Augustus Gardens.
Day 7 – Sorrento Musical
After having free time to do as you please today, this evening will see you take a stroll to the theatre, the Teatro Tasso, which we visited on the first day, to enjoy an unforgettable show at the Sorrento Musical Night, with professional dancers, singers and musicians galore! Performed in 19th century costume, this musical tells the story about the daily life of the Southern Italians in three different scenes. This wonderful 75 minute performance incorporates Italian classics such as “Torna a Surriento” and “O Sole Mio”, and the famous traditional dance , The Tarantella. Hugely popular amongst Topflight guests, this is one show not to be missed!
Day 8 – Return home
Transfer to Naples Airport for your return flight to Dublin. Alternatively, you may extend your stay for an extra week, in Sorrento, Maoiri, or Amalfi.
Please note: The swimming pool is due to close at the end of October but may close earlier depending on the weather.
Meals: This property is offered on a Half Board basis. Buffet breakfast is included. Dinner is 3 course.
The four star Hotel Bristol has been a Topflight favourite for years. Superbly located on a cliffside on the main road overlooking the pretty fishing village of Marina Grande. It is a 10-minute walk down the hill to the centre of Sorrento where you can stroll through narrow cobbled streets lined with shops, cafés and restaurants, and enjoy the heady scent of lemons in the air.
