Elizabeth Visits Tenerife's Luxury Hotels

Posted: Tue Oct 11 12:06

There might well be daily news of worldwide financial collapse, but with demand still high for affordable luxury holidays I headed to the increasingly popular Island of Tenerife as a guest of Classic Collection Holidays to check out the top hotels on the Canaries largest Island.

With a regular service from Belfast to Tenerife allowing you to break tradition of the 7 or 14 ngt holiday, I found myself thinking of what a great destination this could be for a 3, 4 or 5 night short break to the sun, of course if you would like to stay a bit longer its very possible with the flight timetable allowing a 7, 9, 11 or 14 ngt stay!

My last holiday to Tenerife was about 15 years ago and oh my how it has changed!!!  A whole new resort has sprung up in the Costa Adeje area which would have been barren land on the outskirts of Playa de las Americas.

Four days of hotels inspections and here are my favourites:

JARDIN TROPICAL

Although the Jardin Tropical is one of the areas older Luxury Hotels (4 star superior), it will always have one of the best locations facing the Purto Colon Marina. Most of the bedrooms in the hotel have been recently refurnished and the food was of a very high standard.   I would say calming and sophisticated would be a fair description

IBEROSTAR GRANG HOTEL EL MIRADOR (my favourite)

If you’re a couple and looking for something special, look no further!  This is a 5 star adult only hotel (all suite) hotel.  The hotel is small but has a great position overlooking the Playa del Duque Beach.  I found the El MIRADOR to be luxurious and elegant with its Moorish arches and colonial facades radiating relaxation.  The Royal suite can sleep up to six and would be great for a break with a bunch of friends without breaking the bank to much!

GRAN HOTEL BAHAI DEL DUQUE RESORT 5* DELUXE

I would highly recommend this hotel for families.  It has a great atmosphere and the whole complex which is “village style” was buzzing!  It offers extensive public areas with a great selection of bars, restaurants and lounges to choose from, I had a lovely meal in the Japanese restaurant.

We have booked many regular customers to the Del DUQUE and they all want to return, so not a bad recommendation!

IBEROSTAR HOTEL ANTHELIA 5*

I found the Anthelia to have a really good location overlooking the beach and it also had easy access to all the shops and restaurants and excellent kids club.  It has great large swimming pool areas and very well kept gardens. The hotel is always popular as it offers great value in the 5 star category and again as per its neighbour the El Duque  I have had had really good feed back from recent clients!

HOTEL JARDINES DE NIVARIA

The first thing that struck me when entering this hotel was its stunning interiors.  The Nivaria is family run and its owner is an architect by trade has hand picked all the furniture.  The food was superb and with its excellent location over looking Puerto Colon Marina its no wonder it’s the number 1 hotel on Trip Advisor in this area -- “exclusive in a classical style “

If your on a longer break and would like to see more of the traditional Canaria Islands you could take the catamaran from Tenerife to La Gomera. The catamaran, bigger than our own “HSS”, is a comfortable 45 minutes between the two islands.

We stayed at the 4 STAR JARDIN TECINA in the resort of Playa de Santiago.  The hotel is very traditional with excellent views but please note LOTS OF STEPS!  It has a 40 % return customer rate with a many different nationalities. It features a very good golf course as part of its facilities

I hope you enjoyed this snipett of my working holiday in Tenerife and La Gomera, I will be pleased to tell you more.
